Katelyn Hakes, Conductor

Katelyn Hakes is the music teacher at Cromer Elementary School in Flagstaff, AZ and is thrilled to be able to work with the Northern Arizona Youth Chorale. Originally from Las Cruces, NM, her love for music developed as she grew up playing piano, singing in choirs, and playing violin in orchestra. She received her degree in Choral Music Education from Northern Arizona University in 2024. Katelyn has a strong passion for fostering musical expression in young learners and strives to create an inclusive environment where all students feel confident and excited to participate. Whether in the classroom or through the choir program, she is committed to helping students discover their voices and develop a lifelong appreciation for music.
Joseph Amusah, Conductor

Joseph Amusah is a choral conductor, music educator, pianist, and choir director originally from Ghana. He has spent many years teaching music and directing choirs and orchestras, working with students and musicians of different ages and backgrounds. Joseph is passionate about helping young musicians discover the joy of singing, making music together, and growing in confidence through music.
He is currently pursuing a Master of Music in Choral Conducting at Northern Arizona University, where he also serves as a Graduate Teaching Assistant. Joseph is excited to be part of this season and looks forward to making music, learning, and having fun with the students!
